In this tutorial, you will learn how to use the Text Area Component in Flash CS4.

The Text Area Component in Flash is a great way to display both external and internal data. It allows for easy access to external text files to bring in data. There are two basic modes for this component, editable and non-editable. The editable version becomes highlighted when clicked on and the other remains static. This component can also convert html tags to display in Flash. Overall it is a simple but effective way to display text in Flash.

ActionScript 3.0
ta1.editable = true;
ta2.editable = false;

submit.label = "Submit";

ta1.text = "Please edit this text and click the submit button to display the outcome in the non-editable box.";

submit.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, changetxt);

function changetxt (event:MouseEvent):void{
ta2.htmlText = ta1.text;
