|In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a watermark in Photoshop CS4.
Watermarks are very important when trying to protect your media online. I say media because the watermark you create in Photoshop can be used on images, videos, flash files, etc. If you are unfamiliar with what a watermark is, it is basically a logo or text that is placed over your work at a low opacity. The reason for using a watermark is to protect your work from people using it without permission. If created correctly, a watermark is very hard to remove and thus forces copyright violators to either find a new image, or use yours which gives you the credit you deserve. Watermarks are also good for sending clients mockups because it ensures that you will be paid for your work, but still allows for approval.
The watermark I show you how to create is not complicated. It is comprised of a copyright symbol and text for my website. By lowering the opacity and fill and adding a few layer styles you will be able to have a watermark that you can apply to a dark or light image and have it display correctly. If you combine this feature with Photoshop’s batch processing capabilities, you can watermark hundreds of photos in seconds. Good luck in protecting your work with a custom watermark in Photoshop.
