In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a brushed metal effect and screw head in Photoshop CS3.
This was the first Photoshop tutorial that I ever uploaded to Youtube. The process to create this effect is not very difficult or time consuming. Basically, you need some noise and a motion blur for the brushed metal effect. If you want to get fancy, you can add a gradient. For the screw, you need a circle, a rectangle, and some layer styles. This technique can definitely be extended to add rust, or scratches. You could use this effect for anything industrial or involved in construction. I actually used this tutorial to create an under construction banner in Photoshop. Here it is:
